🌩️ Shatter Project Update — New Data + Clearer Insight

Shatter has been a project we’ve been working on for multiple seasons, and it’s finally time to share one of the clearest pieces of evidence we’ve seen so far. This pattern disruptor has been floating around the crested gecko hobby for years, but it’s never been identified or documented. Like the known Pixel trait, Shatter disrupts the pattern from head to tail, it breaks the pattern into a chaotic fractured “shattered glass" appearance.

This season we bred one of our male offspring from a Shatter × Shatter pairing. Based on his expression, we believe him to be a homozygous form of Shatter. To test that, we paired him to Coconut, our clean harlequin female with no broken pattern and no history of pattern disruption.

The result was unmistakable:

100% of their offspring displayed the same Shatter characteristics we originally identified — broken pattern from head to tail, including a shattered tail.

This supports what we’ve suspected for a long time: Shatter is a dominant pattern disruptor, and homozygous Shatter may express even more consistently and intensely. This is only one example from one pairing in an ongoing project, and we have a lot more information and visuals to release.
